Bruised Bouquet is one of them: a matte black skull, hollow-eyed and unassuming, spilling over with a Tradescantia whose trailing stems are striped in shades of purple, silver, and green — each leaf looking faintly battered in the most gorgeous way possible.

Tradescantia is a plant built for drama without the difficulty. Give it bright, indirect light — a touch of gentle direct sun will actually intensify that purple coloring, while too little light leaves the stripes muted and the growth leggy and thin. Water when the top inch of soil dries out; it likes to stay lightly moist but sulks fast in soggy, waterlogged soil. It isn't picky about humidity and does perfectly well in average household air. Left alone, it trails and cascades with abandon — pinch back the growing tips now and then to keep it full rather than stringy, and don't feel bad about it; this plant grows back fast and forgives almost anything. Propagation is nearly instant: snip a few inches of stem just below a node, drop it in water, and roots will appear within days, ready to start a second bruise-colored bloom somewhere new.

The skull itself wears a deep matte black finish, hand-finished with enough texture and weathering to look like it's been cradling that trailing color for far longer than it actually has. A drainage hole keeps the roots from sitting in anything they shouldn't.
